Abstract

This study aims to describe the validity, practicality, effectiveness and to analyze the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills and also to analyze the learning independence of students after using the developed problem-based learning tools. This research is a development research using a modified 4-D development model. The learning tools developed in this study include a learning implementation plan (RPP), student activity sheets (LKPD), and modules. The instruments used were tests of mathematics communication skills, independent learning questionnaires, student response questionnaires, learning device implementation sheets, and teacher observation sheets. From the results of trial I and trial II obtained: 1) the learning device developed has met the valid, practical, and effective criteria in terms of their respective criteria; 2) there is an increase in students mathematical communication skills by using the developed problem-based learning tools. Increased mathematical communication skills from 40% to 80%; 3) there is an increase in the learning independence of students who are taught with the learning tools developed. The increase in the learning independence of students occurred from 85.10% to 87.67%.
