Abstract

Social arithmetic is one of the materials taught to seventh grade junior high school students and is usually used in daily life. But there are still students who make mistakes in solving social arithmetic problems. This student error can be caused by several factors. Therefore, by analyzing the types of errors and knowing the location of errors can be an evaluation material for educators so as to minimize the occurrence of errors made by students in solving social arithmetic problems. The purpose of this study is to describe the types of students 'mistakes in solving social arithmetic problems, find out the factors causing students' mistakes in solving social arithmetic problems, and find solutions to minimize the mistakes made by students in solving social arithmetic problems. The results of this study indicate that there are 4 types of errors made by students in solving social arithmetic problems, namely understanding errors by 26%, transformation errors by 7%, process errors by 8%, and notation errors by 8%. Factors that affect these mistakes are forgetting the formula, not knowing what is being asked, wrong in operating numbers, and wrong in making conclusions. One way to be able to minimize student mistakes is by continuing to innovate in implementing learning.
